#105: Weekly Coaching & Audition Recap
Friday 11/22/24
Welcome to FRIDAY! Another weekly recap of coachings, auditions, SHOWS I SAW, and the show of the month update.
COACHINGS
I had SO MUCH downtime this week actually. Not too bad i have to say! I was really happy to reconnect with a student who I had on zoom like during peak 2020 covid… she was in 8th grade or a freshman then, and I haven’t seen her since! Then I got a text from her mother asking if I had time to help her with an audition - she came into the studio 2x this week and we got her all set. I love when that happens. Honestly, that’s why I schedule the way i do. I want people to come as they need/want. I don’t want them to come because they are obligated bc they paid for a semester. Nothing wrong with that model, it’s very effective especially for young people. But I want lots of people to be able to work with me, not just those 25 I see every single week. Also, kids interests change. I don’t want anyone being forced to come sing!
I also worked with a friend on her callback for a disney show - tough material that had specific requests to bring some physicality to life. She also came into the studio to work and we were really able to explore that physical life. Additionally, I started working with a student who is doing a self-guided MFA and investing in his vocal journey - he’s so engaged and enthusiastic. I also started a new Renovate Your Rep package with a client who is ready to start pushing herself in her material. A really nice week of varied coachings - JUST HOW I LIKE IT!
AUDITIONS
Ummm… i only got 1 and i declined it. Lol. whoops.
SHOWS I SAW
I recapped Jesus Christ Superstar at Montclair State University and, of course, Wicked! Tonight I am seeing PIPPIN at the Barn Theatre in Montville and honestly, after that, I think I only am seeing 1 other show til the new year. Well, I’m also trying to see Gypsy in December. So I’ll only have 2, maybe 3 shows.
SHOW OF THE MONTH
Ok, so i’m getting more and more into the music in Wonderland. Honestly, I love Frank Wildhorn’s music and Wonderland is full of amazing options - all of which can be delivered VERY musical theatre-y or more MT pop. I did find the slime tutorial and will be watching it this week. I Will Prevail is a BOP and amazing singing. And Off With Their Heads is a great choice for Ursula or contemporary villain characters - even like a Drowsy Chaperone.
