#97: Sick day (not a merrily quote lol)

Tuesday 11/12/24

Hi I’m sick and leaving Columbus today. However, I wanted to share something anyway. I have no energy and cannot wait to get home. BUT today here is something that happened last night..

How often do you spend time encouraging and pumping others up? Are you easy to say “of course you did!” when someone gets a role?

How often are you able to do that for yourself? How often do you say “of course i got that role”!

It’s not about being cocky… it’s about knowing your ability.

I have a student who most would say is “green” and he self described as such. The second I hear that in a college prep student, I think to myself “ok i’ll be the judge to that and this means that they either can’t even match a pitch, or they are protecting themselves.”

This student sang really well and takes direction. I can work with this. Well, he just called me last night to say he passed his prescreen for MT for Carnegie Mellon. If you don’t know, Carnegie is like one of the hardest prescreen passes and they take a freshmen class of about 16. So the road is still long, but you have to find moments where you stop second guessing yourself and take these affirming times and run with them.

We have to be able to speak to ourselves the way our coaches, directors, friends, and mentors do.

Dreams Don’t Die
