#109: We had a good thing going
Thursday 11/28/24
Happy Thanksgiving! I’ll keep it brief because we all have things to do today.
My Thanksgiving holiday is so different these days then a few years ago. Up til Thanksgiving/Christmas of 2014, mine were always spent working crazy hours. Since I auditioned and did shows a LITTLE, my job was always in retail so from 2002 (started while in college) til 2014, I worked the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Black Friday at like 5am if not an overnight from late on Thanksgiving, and then Saturday and Sunday. I’d work probably 60-70 hours over those 5 days ESPECIALLY if i was an hourly employee. Black Friday weekend was much easier as a District Manager because I’d just stop by 3 stores and go home haha. I loved LOVED the hustle, the lines, the crazy behavior, the employees, “making the day by 4” IYKYK, and the general holiday spirit.
Now, my thanksgiving weeks are quite dull. It’s a “slow” time for college auditions as people are really in a waiting game getting results and scheduling auditions. There isn’t much to do. This week I had 2-3 people on Tuesday, was off yesterday because I usually teach at the college but they were closed, tomorrow off, saturday and sunday just a few midday coachings.
It’s also a time where I’ve usually been on some kind of Nov/Dec job like Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, Annie, etc. but not this year haha!
I’m thankful for everyone that is here and those who are my students, clients, followers on tiktok, and those that support me and what I’m trying to do. I believe art can change the world if the people who are engaging in it are open. My job as a coach is to help people explore their humanity. We just happen to do it through analyzing Sondheim lyrics :)
Happy Black Friday to those who celebrate.
