#121: Something Is Stirring

Monday 12/16/24

I got a very exciting audition over the weekend that is due Friday for a… gasp… PLAY. I know, I know. A play. WHAT? I’m pumped and it would be an amazing job if I were ever to actually get it. So, I want to do a good job. I’d like to nail it. I figured I’d share with yowhat this looks like for me before I film it. Here’s how my brain is working:

  1. I downloaded the sides and looked up what I could find of the show online. I found out who played the role in NY and then some other productions across the country. It’s a 2 person show, which was news to me, which adds pressure. Like it’s just two people. I have to convince them in a filmed audition that I can carry 50% of the load.

  2. Because I understand how important this is, it’s not a little sidekick role, I need to really live in the scenes. I have to have a strong point of view.

  3. I started script scoring so I can decide beats and have clear thoughts that can show up in the video.

  4. Usually, I record the other lines and act to my own voice. But, this is 3 long scenes and needs to live LIVE. So, I got a friend and we booked time for him to help me. We are filming Friday and I have til then to get as strong in the material as I can.

  5. I have time Tues, Wed, and Thurs night to prep myself. Each day I’m tackling one scene.

  6. I’ll be identifying important lines and moments I want to take. I’ll be sure to communicate those to my friend who is helping me so he knows the pacing and expectations.

  7. While I’m not planning to memorize the scripts, I certainly am going to choose important moments that I do not need to look at the lines.

We’ll see! I’m excited to do it all and see how it goes. It is so rare that someone even thinks of me for a LEAD let alone this kind of role. Stay tuned :)
