#124: We’re Going On Forever

Yesterday I worked with someone I met on zoom in June of 2021. He followed me on tiktok and purchased my “Renovate Your Rep” package when I ran a sale on it. He had just finished his 1st year at Northwestern as a theatre major. We got him all set with new songs and cuts that summer. He was totally lovely and also had a strong point of view which is like SO NEEDED when helping people with their rep for auditions. 

Over the next 3 years, he booked zoom coachings with me occasionally when he needed help his college wasn't providing. I helped him with this audition for the MT cert there (you have audition your 2nd year), helped him with some transfer auditions when he was considering that option, I helped pick his pieces for showcase, and then select what lived on his showcase website for school. Honestly, having a regular student who was in the THEATRE dept at Northwestern, coming to me because of gaps in the training, was so affirming. 

And now he’s graduated and moved to NYC. The last few weeks we worked together to look at new rep that better suits where he is now in his life. We worked on about 10 new cuts which was so fun and exciting. Then, last week he asked if he could come film with me. I was like… UMM YES but you live in BROOKLYN! He said he didn’t care and would come out to jersey. We got him set on the train and I picked up him and we worked for like 3 hours at the studio! I was so amazing meeting someone I’ve had this strong relationship with for 4 years. THE INTERNET IS A CRAZY PLACE. 

What we do as educators is hard and at times thankless - but man, it can also be life changing and exciting. Whoever you are, wherever you are - keep going.
