#99: Bursting With Dreams

Thursday 11/14/24

Today I am back working in my new studio! I have a rental this afternoon using the big room to film a dance prescreen video (without my help! Yay lol) and then i’ve got 3 zoom meetings and a in person coaching later tonight. On one of my breaks later I have to head out to get a new keyboard for the space! I have my heart set on a pretty one on amazon but i think i’ll probably have to settle for a standard ugly plain black on with the stand and all.

While I was in Columbus, I vented for a minute saying “every say i say to myself ‘oh god what have i done signing this lease’ i’m worried about this big expense” and the said “do you think that motivates you or does it have the opposite effect like defeat?”

And it was an interesting thought because of course I wanted to say “it motivates me” but the truth is only time will tell. It’s just a year. And if I make the same exact amount of money I made this year, then it will just be an expense. But I’d like to make double the rent/utilities amount extra so that it feels like it paid for itself and not just like I took a hit. I’m giving myself Nov and Dec to brainstorm and put together a plan for the 1st quarter Jan-March. I’m good at that. I used to get daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly goals from Fossil and Express. Those were given by the company based on many factors so i know how to approach it. I think for me having a large number for the whole quarter to hit feels the most motivating. My business isn’t driven by foot traffic like a mall or strip mall or even online. My business is one that is out of necessity and scheduling. Do I count payment as the day I was paid or the day services were rendered? Someone paid for a coaching today for Dec 1st. Does that count in December or today? I think it counts today. So it’s a bit more unpredictable. For me, the idea of quarters is better since I don’t have a reliable weekly income. I know that April-October are my peak money months. I have to make nearly all my years money in those months. And within that July/Aug/Sept are the biggest due to college prep timing.

I hope to have some exciting things for performers of all ages & interest levels starting up in January with a few piped in in December. I need some more things for my space - a few portable folding tables and chairs that hopefully i can store easily and out of the way - for classes and workshops or even if another company wants to use the space. I’m getting a new keyboard and music stand, I need a ring light/tripod for iphone filming (i have one but its my nice one I’d like to keep at my apartment for last minute auditions for myself). And for my office, a bookcase, mini fridge, coffee maker, etc. OH and a JULIE GALORENZO COACHING sign or two! One for the main room and one for the office to put behind me for zoom meetings and content! Maybe something cute from etsy.

So, yes, to answer my friends question… it motivates me. It’s scary. It’s hard to be self motivated all the time. When I worked for Fossil, whether we “made the week” or not, i still got paid. Not so much the case when you work for yourself. We’ll see how it goes. I’m optimistic. Above all, you must have faith in yourself.
